|

Firstly, thank you for this product and service offering. I greatly appreciate your company's core mission to make network sharing secure and easy. While I have many of the skills necessary to do things like this the hard way, a cohesive and out-of-thebox comprehensive solution is immensely welcome! Yoics seems to service the non-techy users, but you forget that techy users who are well beyond their tinkering years will love this too. I personally have no time to mess with crap like setting these sorts of things up to my liking. So thanks from this group of end users as well!
I found your site while trying to set up a Aviosys9100 that I hadn't been using and I found your firmware. I still don't have the FTP part of it working at all, but preliminary tests show that the email part works. Any help getting the FTP portion of your 2.47 firmware would be appreciated too.
Anyway my main question is about your webcam features in Yoics. Can you set it up to upload the pictures remotely via ftp or something else automated in order to store your motion detected images on a remote server of your choosing somewhere? I mean webcam and IP surveillance is of zero use if the pictures you are recording get stolen on the PC in your home or office recording it. Does Yoics allow this?
thanks

You have to remember the Aviosys firmware was an experimental
firmware that we did to show you could embed Yoics on almost
any hardware device. But we did provide outstanding enhancements
to that product. Unfortunately we were turned down by Aviosys
so we were unable to completely fix that product.
As for the desktop software, very soon we will release new versions that support multiple webcams, upload via FTP and HTTP and MPEG4 encoding of saved files for space and better streaming to mobile devices. These features will be available with our PRO account.
Also at CES there should be several other hardware vendors announcing products with Yoics support.

Thanks also for clearing that up. I didn't realize that the 9100 firmware update was an experiment in proving its embedability.
And Aviosys is crazy to turn you down with their badly Engrished manuals and no updates to their firmware - their device seems awesome; as a full webserver with 4 video inputs and one video out - all smaller than a deck of cards. Very handy if it worked fully - so much cheaper than the excellent but overpriced Axis hardware.
I appreciate that you will be supporting webcams, but it is much more durable, reliable, and cost effective to use composite video cameras to a device like the 9100 rather than USB cables - this will change when there are cheaper wifi IP cameras around I suppose... I prefer wired camera feeds as I personally don't like my security camera feeds getting mangled everytime someone uses a microwave on my block...
On an unrelated note, I just thought of another good use for your Yoics Proxy NOW product for me - I could use it to access my network printers web config page and turn on the fax reception (I only have one line at present) when I am away and I know I about to receive a fax, thenswitch it back off so my voicemail can pick up....
I initially was interested in this product for security cam footage and monitoring, but now am beginning to wonder what it would be like to access my media pc and all my recordings and watch them streaming from behind work firewalls or anywhere via cell.
thanks again for this-- Time to dive in and see how it works. I probably have to get a better data plan for my cell phone now. |

I came across Yoics after trying a 9100A Plus that I had lying around, and the "experimental" Yoics firmware works great. I understand it is not a supported product (as it hardly seems to be from Aviosys). However I have two or three questions in case there are answers available.
1: I cannot seem to get the email motion detection notification to work. Whatever setup I try with SMTP doesn't result in any messages. Is it supposed to work at all? Could it be because of the Yoics firmware (I didn't try it before installing that)?
2: The motion detect sensitivity seems very high however, even on the low setting, and I am suspicious if it will even work if all 4 ports are used. Does it really monitor each port individually for changes?
3: Finally, since the 9100 is its own server, what would be the best way to capture the video on a remote PC, even if it is started manually while viewing?
Thaks in advance, and I will be looking further into your many solutions. |

1) Hard to say never used the email function on the 9100, but it has been said to work when only one channel is active.
2) motion detection on the 9100 does not work when more than one port is active.
3) define "remote" pc. If you mean another PC on the local network you can use the yoics desktop or another software package to record the video from the 9100.

Thanks for that quick reply. I will check the email again on the one port basis, and your point two makes sense.
By remote PC, I mean any viewing the video feed, local network or not (I use Dyndns to access remotely). In other words, what is seen on the screen. I appreciate that is a generic video capture question but it is not something I have done for this type of application. Perhaps your systems apply? |

I think their are several packages that you can run on your PC to record on your PC for the 9100.
You can search for 9100 webcam on google for a list. |
