I upgraded my firmware yesterday, from whatever the unit came with, to the 2.47version, following the instructions in the sticky. I was looking to get the click-able feature to go to any camera full screen. It worked wonderfully for awhile.

What I'm noticing is that since the upgrade the unit just stops working every couple of hours. Cutting power and letting it reboot fixes it for awhile but it's a limited fix as it happens again shortly.

Is there anything I can do? Is it even possible to go back to whatever the original firmware was or is there a fix or another firmware version that was better?

Any help or thoughts appreciated.

Sounds like the unit is unstable with heat, a common problem with 9100's.

The Yoics firmware uses about 20% more CPU than the non Yoics firmware and causes more heat. Since the 9100 is built as cheaply as possible ( and possibly with floor-swept parts) close to a quarter of these devices show some sort of instability.

I know in the past, according to the Yahoo 9100 group that people have un-cased them and take other measures to keep these devices cool.

I wish the metal version of the 9100 were still made by the korean company, because these were a 100x more reliable.

Curious, this thing really has performed pretty well over the last couple of years. If it was going to have trouble with heat I would have expected it in the summers when the temp in the equipment room was in the 90s, not now when it's in the 40s. It may be that 20% more CPU use is pushing it over the edge more than heat. There really should be no over heating problem now. I guess that brings me back to the original question.

Is there a way to go back to what worked, as far as firmware?

Going back to the old firmware will not help your device.

I already has integrity problems with the solder joints that
accumulate over time.

This is a very known problem with the quality of 9100
manufacture. Please see the Yahoo Group on the 9100 for
possible solutions, but likely you'll need to buy a new one.

I looked at that group and got a few ideas, thanks for the tip. I did find an older firmware version that I put in and all is back to normal now. Like you say the units are not the best and have some quality problems but at least I'm back to it showing my cameras again. Smile

Hi,

Just to give you some feedback based on my own experience. I fact mid of this year I had a similar problem with one of my two 9100A already working fine for over a year (http://support.yoics.com/viewtopic.php?t=334). The problem was related to a solder joint (as suggested by "mycal"), so I took as solder iron and passed over some joints and now everything is working fine.

Again many thanks to mycal for his suggestions

Regards

Patrick
